PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
ARDEX Concrete Guard is a high solids acrylic sealer designed to seal
and protect Ardex wear surface products, and all common concrete and masonry
surfaces, both interior and exterior.
RANGE
OF APPLICATION
Use ARDEX Concrete Guard to seal and protect all unpainted cementitious
surfaces, indoors or outdoors, on residential, commercial and light industrial
warehouse applications. Concrete patios, walkways, parking decks, driveways,
walls, and columns can all be coated and sealed with ARDEX Concrete Guard.
It is especially suited for sealing ARDEX CD and CD Fine Concrete Dressing,
ARDEX A-300 Pourable Outdoor Concrete Topping, ARDEX Poly-Top Polymer
Concrete Patching Compound, ARDEX Tilt-Wall Patch, as well as ARDEX SD-T
Self-Drying, Self-Leveling Concrete Topping and ARDEX K-500 Self-Leveling
Concrete Topping.
Easy to apply, quick drying, nonflammable, and UV stable, ARDEX Concrete
Guard is very durable and abrasion resistant. Its ability to penetrate
into the surface of the concrete helps to resist flaking and peeling.

Installation Instructions
SUBFLOOR
PREPARATION
All existing concrete surfaces must be structurally sound, solid and completely
clean. Remove all existing sealers, curing compounds, latex or gypsum
patching compounds, dust, dirt, oil, or any other contaminant that may
act as a bondbreaker. Do not use sweeping compounds, solvents or acid
etching as a means of surface preparation.
ARDEX Concrete Guard can be applied over ARDEX SD-T, ARDEX Tilt-Wall Patch,
and ARDEX CD and CD Fine Concrete Dressing as soon as they are hard enough
to receive the application of the sealer without damaging the surface.
Prior to installing the ARDEX Concrete Guard over regular concrete or
masonry the substrate must be completely dry and must be between 50°F
and 90°F.
RECOMMENDED
TOOLS
ARDEX Concrete Guard is easily applied to a prepared surface using one
of the following: nylon brush, 3/8" nap paint roller, or airless,
HVLP and conventional spray equipment.
INSTALLATION
Due to the product's high percentage of solids, the contents of the container
must be thoroughly mixed prior to use.
ARDEX Concrete Guard should be applied in two thin coats, allowing 2-4
hours between coats, depending upon atmospheric conditions. (Back-rolling
is recommended when spraying to prevent puddling.)
When outdoors, do not apply if rain, fog, or extremely high humidity is
expected within 6-8 hours or if freezing temperatures could occur within
24 hours of application. Do not apply on surfaces under 50°F or over
90°F.
Allow ARDEX Concrete Guard to cure a minimum of 24 hours before normal
traffic, and a minimum of 72 hours before heavy traffic.
Always install an adequate number of properly located test areas to ensure
the suitability of the system for its intended use.
NOTE: Apply
two coats of ARDEX Concrete Guard to insure uniformity and optimum durability.
COLORS
ARDEX Concrete Guard is available in clear or "Concrete Gray".
While clear will be appropriate for most jobs, the use of Concrete Gray
will provide a more uniform appearance on projects where different concrete
substrates exist.
USDA/FDA
COMPLIANCE
In compliance with USDA/FDA Food Safety & Inspection Service Directive
1000.4, Rev. 1, all ARDEX Concrete Guard products are acceptable for industrial
uses including plants under USDA and FDA federal inspection, such as meat,
poultry and beverage. These products, once applied properly, create a
non-porous coating that is approved for incidental food contact and will
perform well under the daily regimen of thorough cleaning as well as cyclical
temperature changes and wet conditions.
STORAGE
ARDEX Concrete Guard should be stored within the range of 50°-90°F.
Tightly close the lid on partially used containers. If ARDEX Concrete
Guard is frozen, it will have a congealed or stringy appearance and should
not be used. In this case contact the Ardex Technical Service Department
for further information.
