1.Solid, Sound
& Clean The
existing concrete surface must be structurally sound, solid
and free of sealers, curing compounds, oils and contaminants
that may act as "bond breakers". Clean out debris
from expansion joints and tape or mask the joints to prevent
ARDEX CD from filling them in. |
|
|
|
|
2.Patching
Repair spalls
or gouges less than 1" in diameter and 1/2" deep
prior to resurfacing with ARDEX CD (see patching mix ration
on bag label). For cracks larger than 1/32", use an
acrylic caulk designed specifically
for crack repair. Allow patched areas to dry according to
the manufacturer's specifications before applying dressing. |

3.
Mixing
Mix ARDEX CD
with water in a clean bucket with a mixing paddle or margin
trowel (see recommended tools). Carefully
follow recommended measuring and mixing instructions on
the bag. DO NOT OVERWATER. Additional water will
weaken the mixture. |
|

|
|
4.Application
by Trowel To
apply ARDEX CD with a steel trowel, simply pour the mixture
onto the surface and spread evenly. Vertical
applications are best applied by trowel. |
|
|
|
|
or
Application
by Squeegee ARDEX
CD can also be applied with a rubber squeegee. Follow the
same mixing instructions and spread evenly over the entire
surface. Maintaining a "wet edge" by overlapping
working areas will help minimize natural color variations
which may occur between sections. |

5.
Broom
Finish To
apply a broom finish, pull the edge of a medium or fine
bristle broom through the wet surfaces using light pressure.
Do this immediately after spreading the mix. For best results,
work in sections small enough that will allow you to easily
reach the newly applied surface with the finishing broom. |

Hints |
- Overlapping wet working
areas will help prevent color variations which may occur when
installing any concrete product in sections.
- If a broom finish
is to be applied, work in small areas that allow you to easily
reach the newly installed surface. Always apply the broom
finish immediately after applying the product before it begins
to set (set time will vary depending on ambient temperature).
- Make sure the substrate
is at a surface temperature of at last 50°F. While
the CD can be installed within a wide range of temperatures,
concrete products are best installed in moderate temperatures
(60° - 70°F), as high temperatures will effect working
time. If high temperatures are anticipated, apply ARDEX
CD during morning hours, before the old surface gets too warm.
If necessary, mix with ice water to extend working time.
- Keep the newly applied
surface away from sprinklers and/or rain for at least 12 hours
after installation, and freezing temperatures for 24 hours.
- As is
the case with all concrete surfaces in general, ARDEX CD should
be sealed with a water-borne, breathable concrete sealer
such as ARDEX Concrete Guard to
prevent dusting and to help resist damage from standing water,
salt, oil as well as staining and marking. Sealing of
the ARDEX CD can proceed 24 hours after installation.
